Congratulations to Lindsay Nielson on being named July’s winner for our R.A.D. Award! A neighbor nominated Lindsay for coordinating meal deliveries for her while she was battling cancer a couple of years ago.

“I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, and Lindsay lives next door to me. She rallied the families in the neighborhood to deliver meals to me once a week after my chemo treatments. She created and circulated a Google document to coordinate the deliveries and would also leave treats for me on my front porch. During winter, she would shovel my sidewalk and porch. She's an amazing neighbor, mom, and inspiration,” Lindsay’s nominator said.

Lindsay moved to Daybreak in January 2009 and resides in Northshore with her husband Jeremy and four kids. She is originally from Florida and has resided in Utah for 20 years.

According to Lindsay, arranging for food delivery to her neighbor with cancer was a group effort. Lindsay and fellow neighbors wanted to ensure that their neighbor undergoing cancer treatment was not lonely or overwhelmed.

“When those situations happen, we must take care of the simple things. It is nice to know it was helpful to her. It also allowed us to visit with her, check in and see how she was doing. She is so great and kind, and we all wanted to reciprocate the kindness that she has shown us.  She should get the award. She is much loved. Everyone just wanted to show her love and think of her”

We commend Lindsay’s initiative in setting up the google doc and for rallying the community around their neighbor. The response was overwhelming and is an incredible testament to the goodness that exists in the community and among neighbors.
