The LiveDAYBREAK Daybreak Diversity & Inclusion Club has placed signs around Oquirrh Lake for Black History Month.

More than 30 community members joined together at Eastlake Park in Daybreak to unite and celebrate Black History Month. “The Daybreak for Diversity & Inclusion Club wanted to think of a unique, socially distant way where members of our community could come together and learn about influential black men and women - both in Utah and throughout the United States,” explained Vanessa Janak.

These community members took about an hour to place more than 30 signs around Oquirrh Lake. The signs tell the stories of lesser-known black men and women like Barbara Jordan and Gordon Parks. The display will hopefully raise awareness on the influence black men and women outside of the cookie-cutter history most of us already know.

David Perry expressed his gratitude for the event, “I appreciate Daybreak allowing this Black History project to take place in order to advocate for diversity and inclusion within our neighborhood. Black History is important within American History and needs to be better recognized and appreciated. I am glad we are doing our part within Daybreak to promote it.”

These signs will be on display until Sunday, February 28^th. This event will be featured in a KSL documentary in early April.

This project was in conjunction with LiveDAYBREAK and approved by the Master HOA.
