- July 16
- Aug 6
We’re generally looking for Daybreak residents ages 7 – 14, but we’re not stuck on those ages. Swimmers will need to be able to complete 25 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke (and are expected to practice for a full hour) without stopping to be eligible.
Instruction will be provided by members of our local high school swim team (who also happen to be certified Daybreak lifeguards) following a training plan created by the high school coaching staff.
What Do I Need?
- Suit: Boys, you’re going to want to get a Speedo-style suit or jammers as traditional open plunge trunks are quite difficult to swim effectively in. Trunks/Board shorts are great for play but not so great for swimming as they’re like joining the track team and wearing snow boots to practice.
- Goggles: Look for low‐profile, name-brand goggles. Speedo Skoogles are pretty good for younger kids. Speedo Vanquishers are a good, economical option for older kids. Speedo Speedsockets is a higher‐end option for older kids. Keep in mind that the farther the goggle sticks out from the eye socket, the more likely they are to be pulled off from the force of diving (which is often the case with low‐name brand, play‐style goggles).
- Fins: Avoid plastic, scuba‐style fins as they can cut into kids’ heels and are also sometimes sharp. Go rubber! Sports is one of the better options… Tritan and Speedo also make good rubber fins. Rumor has it that fins have been in short supply this year, so be sure to jump on this one early.
